Hi, my name is Neha Rodricks, and I graduated from Duke in the Spring of 2024. I majored in Economics, minored in Sociology, and completed the Markets and Management Certificate. Besides BOW, I was very involved in my multicultural dance group, Defining Movement. I will be starting at Deloitte as a Business Technology Solutions Consulting Analyst in September in the New York City office.
Thinking back, what led you to join BOW?
As a freshman, I felt as though everyone around me knew what they wanted to do and were on the path to get there. However, as someone who entered college pre-med and within the add-drop period realized it was not the path for me, I felt lost and overwhelmed. BOW seemed like the perfect place to learn about different careers in business, while at the same time providing me with a community of women to help me figure out what was best for me.
What is your coolest accomplishment and/or favorite memory from Duke?
My coolest accomplishment was being tent #2 at Coach K’s last Duke-UNC game. It was the first year we were able to tent my sophomore after COVID-19, and it came with some bumps in the road. COVID ran through K-ville and hit almost every person in my tent, which was a challenge to manage as tent captain, but worth it in the end to be front row to witness Coach K’s last game in Cameron Indoor.
My favorite memory from Duke, however, did not take place in Cameron, but across campus in Page Auditorium, the night of Defining Movement’s 20th anniversary showcase. [Defining Movement is a multicultural dance group on campus]. We had so many alumni return, including our founder, and being on stage altogether after each generation took a bow was truly the most heartwarming moment I have ever experienced.
What led you to pursue a career in consulting and ultimately at Deloitte?
When I was trying to think of what career was best for me, I thought about the traits I wanted to use at work every day. For instance, I am a people person and wanted to find a job that had me collaborate with people every day. Through BOW’s resources, I attended many information sessions when companies came to talk about careers at their company. I found that consulting best aligned with what I wanted to do. Furthermore, I felt that I connected the most with the people at Deloitte, especially through the coffee chats I had through BOW.
How has mentorship factored into your path?
As someone unsure what career path I wanted to take, I turned to a lot of people for advice. With the help of members from BOW, I knew what classes to take to explore my different interests, and was able to get connected with people in different consulting companies to hear about their experiences.
Could you talk a little bit about your summer internships and how they influenced your career path?
I have interned at Deloitte for the past two summers. Initially, as a rising sophomore, I went into my internship wanting to gain experience in consulting and figure out what the job entailed. At Deloitte, I was met with an amazing community of people who all wanted what was best for me, so it was an easy decision to come back the following summer, and now for a full-time role.
What advice do you have for current BOW members trying to navigate their job search?
My biggest advice is do not network with someone just because you feel like you should. There should be a reason you connect with someone, so ask them questions that you genuinely care about the answer to. If you are asking generic questions just for the sake of networking, the person you are trying to connect with will be able to tell.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I am not sure! I am excited to start full-time at Deloitte in a couple of weeks and I will see where that takes me!
